Soy plateado y exacto. No tengo prejuicios.
Cualquier cosa que veo de inmediato la absorbo
tal como es, sin que el amor ni la aversión la empañe.
No soy cruel, solo veraz.
El ojo enmarcado de un pequeño dios.
Paso el tiempo meditando en la pared de enfrente.
Es rosada, con manchas. De tanto mirarla
pienso que es parte de mi corazón. Pero fluctúa.
Rostros y sombras nos separan una y otra vez.
Ahora soy un lago. Una mujer se inclina hacia mí,
buscando en mis entrañas lo que ella realmente es.
Entonces recurre a esos impostores, el candil o la Luna.
Veo su espalda, y la reflejo fielmente.
Ella me paga con lágrimas y un temblor de sus manos.
Soy importante para ella. Su imagen viene y va.
Cada mañana es su rostro lo que reemplaza las sombras.
En mí ella ha ahogado a una muchacha,
y en mí una anciana asciende día tras día hacia ella,
como un pez terrible.

I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions.

Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall.
It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long
I think it is part of my heart. But it flickers.
Faces and darkness separate us over and over.
Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me,
Searching my reaches for what she really is.
Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon.
I see her back, and reflect it faithfully.
She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands.
I am important to her. She comes and goes.
Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness.
In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman
Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.
