Miguel Díaz-Canel llegó el martes 8 de abril a Honduras para participar en la IX Cumbre de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC), anunció la Presidencia de Cuba, que evitó mencionar que el gobernante es acompañado por Lis Cuesta, su esposa, quien pese a no tener cargo oficial de relevancia lo escolta en la mayoría de sus viajes oficiales.
La presencia de la primera dama cubana en el foro no fuera noticia si el gobernante de la Isla no se la pasara, junto a su Gobierno, justificando las penurias que sufren los cubanos con la carencia de recursos y el embargo de EEUU, que no parecen afectar el tamaño de sus comitivas cuando viaja.
De acuerdo con la cadena local RNH, el coordinador del partido de Gobierno Libertad y Refundación, Manuel Zelaya, expresidente del país y esposo de la actual mandataria, Xiomara Castro, lo recibió en la pista del aeropuerto.
Previamente, el canciller Bruno Rodríguez informó en sus redes sociales que había participado en la reunión de titulares de relaciones exteriores preparatoria de la sesión de máximo nivel de este miércoles 9 de abril y que se reunió con su homólogo hondureño, Enrique Reina.
"Cuba continuará promoviendo la preservación de la unidad en la diversidad en América Latina y el Caribe, así como los mecanismos de concertación política e integración existentes", escribió en X.
Entre los presidentes que han confirmado su asistencia a la cita regional están los de Colombia, Gustavo Petro; México, Claudia Sheinbaum; Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; Bolivia, Luis Arce, así como la anfitriona, Xiomara Castro. En la cumbre, Castro traspasará la presidencia pro témpore de la CELAC a Petro.
Reportes de prensa desde la capital hondureña aseguran que también están en ese territorio el presidente uruguayo, Yamandú Orsi, y el líder del Consejo Presidencial de Transición de Haití, Leslie Voltaire.
Las ausencias del argentino Javier Milei, el venezolano Nicolás Maduro y el salvadoreño Nayib Bukele marcarán este encuentro del foro impulsado hace una década por Hugo Chávez, que tiene lugar en medio de la política de deportaciones y la aplicación de aranceles decididos por Donald Trump, y que impacta a la mayoría de los países del grupo.
Al término de la jornada, las delegaciones analizarán la Declaración de Tegucigalpa, que contiene las acciones y acuerdos de las reuniones del periodo 2024-2025, con el propósito de lograr consenso en América Latina y el Caribe respecto a importantes asuntos regionales.
La CELAC agrupa a 33 países de la región, excepto Estados Unidos y Canadá.
