Israel López Valdés, better known as Cachao, was a Cuban double bassist and composer. Cachao is widely known as the co-creator of the mambo and a master of the descarga. Throughout his career he also performed and recorded in a variety of music styles ranging from classical music to salsa. An exile in the United States since the 1960s, he only achieved international fame following a career revival in the 1990s.
El mambo no lo invento Benny More Ni Perez Prado... The earliest roots of mambo can be traced to the danzón de nuevo ritmo (danzón with a new rhythm), later known as danzón-mambo, made popular by the orchestra Arcaño y sus Maravillas conducted by flautist Antonio Arcaño.
Orestes López and his brother Israel López "Cachao", main composers of the Maravillas, were the first to denominate a final upbeat, improvised section of the popular Cuban danzón as a mambo.

El músico y compositor cubano ARSENIO RODRIGUEZ que en los años '30 escribío danzones con cierto sabor a MAMBO(UNA ESPECIE DE MONTUNO). Los hermanos ISMAEL CACHAO Y SU HERMANO ORESTES LÓPEZ le dieron ritmo acelerándolo un poco.Fue otro músico cubano DÁMASO PÉREZ PRADO quien lo popularizó en La Habana -con su nuevo estilo- y viajó a México en el año 1949 donde fue un tremendo éxito. Triunfa en Norteamérica al incluirle en sus arreglos el ritmo swing estadounidense. Todo un talento. Internacionalmente se asocia el MAMBO con PÉREZ PRADO.
